Constructing a PBL Notebook for Gifted and 2E Learners:

Helping Teachers Scaffold Students’ Learning with an Awareness of Executive Function Needs and Cognitive Load Theory

Guest speaker: Gabrielle Plastrik

Session Description:

In this interactive session, educators will review brain informed “better” practices for scaffolding PBL. Educators will have the opportunity to construct their own digital or ready to print PBL notebooks with templates, guidance, and support. Educators will consider what most of their students need as well as opportunities for differentiation. All participants will leave with their own digital notebooks. We will be using Google Slides, so educators will need to have Google accounts. Canva is free for educators, and it would also be helpful for teachers to have Canva accounts set up.

Session attendees will…

  • review or be introduced to cognitive load theory
  • consider methods of scaffolding goal setting
  • consider methods of scaffolding metacognition
  • review or be introduced to executive function skills
  • learn digital design tools within Google Slides and Canva
  • construct a digital or ready to print PBL notebook that will support gifted and 2E learners in the their specific teaching context

The event is finished.
